Kitty Melissa Cunningham Texas Mystery
I need your help in solving a 100 year old mystery.
THE FACTS -
My grandaunt Melissa Jones was born in 1866 in Gainsville, Cooke County, Texas.
Melissa was the daughter of John O. Jones and Margaret C. [Jones] Jones.
In 1885 Melissa Jones married Charles Wesley Cunningham.
On October 27, 1886 Melissa died giving birth to her only child, a daughter which was named Kitty Melissa Cunningham.
Kitty was born in Burneyville, Indian Territory (now Burneyville, Oklahoma).
Charles Cunningham gave his daughter to Melissa's mother, Margaret, to care for and then he promptly disappeared.
We next find Kitty 14 years later living with her aunt Martha Jane [Jones] Carnahan in Cooke Co., Texas.
This is the last evidence I have found of Kitty.
THE MYSTERY -
Sometime afterward Charles Cunningham, with his new wife, appeared at the home saying he had come to get his daughter. Kitty, having never seen her father before, was terrified and went and hid herself in the garden. Margaret and the others pleaded with him not to take Kitty away from them but instead of listening to their pleas he went into the garden, grabbed his daughter and took her away. No one in our family has ever seen or heard from Kitty since then.
What became of this little girl?
Did she grow up?
Did she marry and have children of her own?
