If a man belonged to the Oddfellows he probably wasn't some poor dirt farmer, so you might check for an obituary. You never know what might pop up in an obit.

Have you obtained a copy of his death certificate? It should show the names of his parents.

Did he enter this country through Galveston? Try the Galveston Co, TX GenWeb site, see if they have anything on immigration lists. Check with the Galveston Public Library, I believe they have a book/books on immigrants through their port. Post a query on that site and ask for help regarding ship passenger lists and immigration records.

Check Gonzales Co, TX GenWeb site, see what they have posted on their site, and be sure to post your query on that site, too. Other descendants of the family may "find" you there. As late as 1968 a Frances Lucille Shock (widow) died in Gonzales Co. Happy Hunting.
