Great-grandfather James Robert Graham

I am looking for information on my Great-grandfather James Robert Graham who according to his death certificate was from Galveston, Texas. He was a Civil War soldier first fighting for the south then after becoming a prisoner he fought for the north. He married Mary Jane Hamer on June 7,1871 and died on August13,1898 in Rock Island,Illinois.
According to his obit there were 10 children born to them but only 3 lived to be adults and that is according to her obit. James was born in 1827 according to his grave marker. Can anyone help me find out anything on his life and family other than what I have written here. Thanks in advance.
