Sometimes on death cerificates, the informant does't have the full or correct information.Have you obtained a copy of his application for Soc Sec number?I understand it contains personal information, and he would have filled it out himself.He would be more apt to give "correct" information on a government document.So, if the story about being given to a white family was just a story, this might clear it up for you.
Do you know if he ever applied for a delayed birth certificate?Many people were applying during the time of WWII, and some were doing it so they could apply for Soc Sec.If he did, they are filed separately from regular birth certificates, and you have to ask for them specifically.TX began keeping vital records in 1903, so he wouldn't have had an original birth certificate issued at time of his birth.
