Were you able to find your county/counties on the TX GenWeb site?Scroll down to Texas County Index option. There will be boxes with the alphabet.Becasue there are 254 counties in TX, they do theirs a little different. For Harris Co. you click on "H", then find Harris in the list of counties beginning with "H".The county sites vary in format and what the do offer. They are run by volunteers and therefore they can vary greatly.
Texas, at the state level, is a state with lots of good “stuff”, click and look, try “Texas Research Help”, it will lead you to such as:Handbook of TX Online (good for those TX towns not on maps, early settlers, history etc); Confederate Museum (all Rebs); TX Ranger Museum (both have records); TX Confederate Pension Idx Online (different then Museum); TX State Library & Archives etc etc.
If you are referring to the vital record indexes.I will give you a site where several are offered. You can then bookmark any of those you want to use in the future.Scroll down to "Records from Federal and State Resources", and find Texas.Be sure to note the different dates covered for the various indexes.
