Most census research still has to be done at a National Archives Branch - NARA, or a library that is large enough to hold the microfilm collection. If you don't know where to go locally where you live, go to the GenWeb site for your own county, if nothing is posted for local research, post a query and ask where do local genealogists go to research microfilmed federal censuses. I'm sure a local researcher will jump in. Some GenWeb counties are putting censuses on their sites, just for their county. But, that only helps if you know in which county your family resided at a given census year.
