Finding a 1854 Death Record Austin TX

I'm interested in locating the grave and finding out who the parents of my great great grandfather who died in 1854 are. Everything I've accessed about a death record, seems to indicate that there would be no records from that early a date. I have found a newspaper article with a Masonic tribute for him, but with no personal information.

Has anyone had any success in finding this information from that time period. Also, I would be interested in what cemeteries might have had burials during 1854.
