I'm afraid I don't have anything that mentions these MATHIS fellas, but I may be able to direct you to someone who does.
If you're located in or near San Angelo, you might check out the local history collection that's held at the Angelo State University's Porter Henderson Library. Their url is
I recently saw an item for sale on eBay - a program for the grand opening of their airport in San Angelo, Mathis Field. I got the old 1927 yearbook on eBay (the one with the pictures on my website about old San Angelo).
Another resource might be the San Angelo Standard Times. I have some old newspaper clippings from WWII about my father, who was a P-51 pilot. They probably ran other news "from the front," too. When I was a kid, they kept what was called "the morgue" - a huge set of files of clippings about folks who'd appeared on the newspaper's pages over the years. That's probably been updated by now - on microfilm or something - but they may still have some sort of index to the names on the microfilmed pages. That's JUST a guess!
Let me know what sort of luck you have with these options. If nothing pans out, I'll check around some more.
