Betty,
Hopefully this will be of some value in your search. Texas has been keeping birth/death records since 1903 and the death records from 1964 to present are online. Those from 1903 through 1963 are on microfiche and it will be several years before the money to digitize them is available. Fortunately there is a group of volunteers providing limited lookup service for those early years. I ask them to check those recoords for your G Grandmother and this is part of the response I received.

This is the first time I have run across an "ammended" record and that may very well be in your favor because there was someone interested enough in her death to change incorrect or add missing information. I would suggest that this could well be her but I'm not at all sure there will be the right information to assure her identification. I would think a dob in the proper range would help and if the individual approving the arrangements for burial is a J. Brewster you could be fairly assured it is her. Death certificates in Texas are $9.00. I don't know if the amended one would also be $9.00 and you can get them from 2 sources. I suggest you telephone the County Clerk Of Court and see if they can provide the certificate(s) and perhaps at that time they could shed some light on why the amended copy. You will save about 6 weeks as opposed to ordering from the State. Here is a site that explains how to order a death certificate from the State. http://www.vitalrec.com/tx.html
Here is the mailing address and telephone for the Navarro County Courthouse:
Navarro County Clerk
300 West Third Avenue
Corsicana, TX 75110
903) 654-3035

Something else you might do if you telephone the clerk. Have him/her check to see if they have a record on file of her marriage. If so have them make a copy of that page where the marriage is recorded and send it to you. This generally costs $1.00 and a stamped, self addressed envelope (they will probably want that before they make the copy). Sometimes the parents names are recorded!

Texas Death Certificates have spaces for dob, dod, place of death, parents names, parents state of birth, and the name of the undertaker/funeral home handling the burial. There is also the name of the individual providing the information to be put on the certificate (great in this case).

As for Mr. Brewster there was a return of 4 names and no real way to determine if he was in the group. The first one is my choice only because of the middle initial. I have no recommendations about him.

Note that there were two James Brewsters who died on the same day in El Paso County. You believe that?

I hope you are able to use this information and finally find the information about your G Grandmother. If I can help any way let me know.
