Have you checked 1850 census index or GA? Any Stokes families in Macon Co? Check them out, does one have a John under 1 yr old?

Also, check 1900 census in TX, Monte Stokes would be 5 and still at home. That census asks questions not on other census records. Month and year of birth of everyone in the household. Married women asked how many children they've had, and how many living at time of census - that one helps when there is a 2nd wife. And, there is much more.
