TX Powers killed by Indians?

My Salmans family history book lists a Margaret Mary (Polly) Salmans (1793-1877) who married a Benjamin Power (1791-1939). They arrived in Texas in 1836, settled near Clinton in Dewitt County and later moved nearer to McCoy Creek and to Yoakum. (Are these real locations?)

It is stated that Benjamin was killed in Texas by Indians in 1839, along with his son, Michael (1818-1839). His son Josiah (1824-1876) was captured by Indians at the age of 18 in 1842, but was able to escape. Josiah's brother, Levi (1830-1842), was captured and killed. One of Benjamin's grandchildren--Joe Van Dyke, was killed by New Mexico Indians.

Is this fact or fiction? Pretty long narrative in my family book about it.
