This is an old posting so I don't know what you may have found in the meantime, however, I am attaching a copy of the obituary for Ambrose Fitzgerald who I believe is William's father. My great-grandfather was Monroe M Fitzgerald and I believe he and William were brothers. There is a Fitzgerald Family Cemetery which is where I believe Ambrose is buried. There are no other marked graves. I have checked the area cemeteries that have an online access and did not find graves for William or Georgia. I found one grave in the Browning Family Cemetery in Smithland, TX for a Jessie Bell Fitzgerald which was the child of William & Georgia - dob March 21,1880 to April 27, 1882. It says there are several graves that are only marked with stones. Perhaps they are there. I am in the early stages of looking for my side of the Fitzgerald family. If I run across anything further, I will let you know.

Death Of An Old Citizen

One of Marion County's oldest citizens, Mr. Ambros Fitzgerald passed away Tuesday, October 25th at 11 p.m. at his home near Smithland. Mr. Fitzgerald would have been 82 in November. He came to Texas about 70 years ago. He was the father of five children, four of which survive him and about ten grandchildren and two or three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives. He has been almost blind and helpless for about two or three years. Mr. Fitzgerald was a blacksmith in the early days, but mostly he farmed throughout his long life. His son, Monroe and family lived with him for the last few years and took care of him. He leaves one brother, Mr. J. M. Fitzgerald, about 80, that lives in Jefferson. The burial took place Wednesday at the Fitzgerald Family Cemetery on the old home place.

Note: Ambrose Fitzgerald was born about 1829 - his tombstone has death date as Oct 28th. He was born in Virginia, the s/o Jesse & Frances LEWIS Fitzgerald. The family came to Texas in 1839, in the Civil War, he served in company F, 22nd Brigade, Texas Confederate Cavalry. He married first, Frances Skidmore in 1849, they were the parents of William Pink, Susan Caroline, Levi C., Monroe Mathes, Mary and Ambrose. He married second, Mary Scuddy in 1907.
