John R. Griffin was my great great grandfather and he married Lucinda Jane Carson in Cass Co., Tx. His father ws Thomas J. Griffin and his mother was Elizabeth. Elizabeth and John R. (Rousey) are buried next to each other in the Simmons Cemetery. I haven't been able to locate a tombstone or marker for Thomas. My great great grandfather died in 1864/1865 after returning from the Civil War. He returned home sick and died six months after returning home.
A diary I have said that his aunt drove from Hickory Hill to
a war site to bring both John and her son (?) home from the war. Where is not stated.

I am looking for information on Lucinda Jane Carson, my great great grandmother, the wife of John Rousey Griffin. I have never been able to place where she was living prior to her marriage to John Rousey Griffin in February, 1861. According to a very old diary I have Emma Frances said that her mother was born in Illinois and of course, the Griffin's came from Alabama to Hickory Hill, TX.

John and Emma had one child, Emma Frances Griffin, my great grandmother and for whom I am named. She was born while her father was away fighting for the Confederacy and never remembered him as she was only about four years old when he died. John R. Griffin's name is on the Texas Memorial at Vicksburg as one of those who fought there. Emma and her mother Lucinda Jane Carson Griffin eventually settled in Montague Co., TX. I have pictures of both Lucinda and Emma. Lucinda Griffin is buried in the Brushy Cemetery in Montague Co., And Emma is buried in Bowie.
