Barbara,
The community of Neal derived its name from Rev. John D. Neal who came to Madison Co. in the 1850s. He was married to Celia Freeman Nixon the widow of Thomas Graves Nixon who was murdered in MS. John Neal m. Celia a widow with her 5 children and fathered Fanny Neal (Ms. John G.Heath), John Freeman Neal, and Sarah Ella Neal. One of Celia's Nixon sons, Isaac Pipkin Nixon married Mary Ann Clapp (of Clapp's Ferry) Another of Celia's sons(Thomas Graves Nixon,Jr) m. Jane G.
