Hi Christy,

Thanks for the leads on Elias Hollen. I don't know much about him other than he is buried in Groesbeck TX in the same cemetery as Theodosia (Dosie). I did not know he had a daughter named Earl, that is very interesting. I have a living relative that actually knew Dosie and also knew of the Hollen homestead in Groesbeck. I tend to think it very likely that Elias was in the Civil War as so many in that area of Texas were, all Confedrates. The fact that he has Virgina listed on his tombstone is also interesting...I have seen the tombstone and that is all that is there other than his name and (I think) some dates. I also know that Dosie named her first child (James Elias Cowart) after him, and after her husband James Nettles Cowart, possibly after her father-in-law William J.(James?) Cowart.

I have heard but not verified various stories about Dosie(I have found different spellings also). I have heard that she was part Creek Indian, that she came thru Oklahoma and actually taught school there, but she would have to have been awfully young since she was a mere child when she had her first born in Groesbeck. My living relative tells me Dosie had a dark complexion, if that means anything. If you will send me your email address I'll tell you more as some things are family "secrets". Thanks for contacting me and giving me some leads.
