I am a descendant of the HOLLENs of Virginia and West Virginia. I haven't found the absolute proof that Eli/Elias HOLLEN of Limestone Co, TX, is the son of Elias HOLLEN and wife Catherine SCHICKLE of Rockingham Co, VA, but have a strong suspicion that he is.

Here's what I've found on E. HOLLEN of Limestone County and his family.

There are 5 "Public Member Trees" at ancestry.com that contain a Theodoesia E. HOLLEN. Four of those trees identify her father as Elias HOLLEN. Several of the trees (if not all) have connected to a story about Theodoesia "Dosie" and her tombstone, so you'll want to check that out. Father is identified as Elias HOLLEN, born Virginia 1844, died Texas 1889.

Censuses that relate:
1880 Limestone Co, TX; household Indexed as "Ed. Holland", but I think it looks like "Eli"
1900 Limestone Co, TX; household of James M. MEEKS and wife Theo ("Dosie")
1910 Robertson Co, TX; Household of James R. GRAVES & wife Earl
1920 McLennan Co, TX; Household of Frank B. RIDING and wife Earl
1930 McLennan Co, TX; Household of Frank B. RIDING and wife Earl

In the "Texas Deaths, 1890-1976" database of images at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch there are death certificates for Theo Dasia Hallen Meeks and Earl Hollen Riding. Based on census and other records, these are daughters of E. HOLLEN of Limestone County. They are either sisters or half-sisters. Death certificates are also there for Earl's children by her first marriage to James R. GRAVES. The children are Mabel BULLARD and V. Maurice GRAVES. There are death certificates for Dosie's children: Jimmie Elias COWART and Nona Alice Jordan.

The family of Elias HOLLEN/HOLLAND of Rockingham Co, Virginia, in the 1850 and 1860 censuses includes son Elias born abt 1844. The family is still there in 1870, but the younger Elias born abt 1845 is not. Perhaps he went to Texas?

Did Eli/Elias of Limestone Co serve in the Civil War? Was he the Elias HOLLAND in Co A, 3rd Battalion, VA Reserves?

You might be able to locate Rockingham estate settlements and determine if the elder Elias's estate mentions a son in Texas. Or maybe the estates of the children of Elias of Rockingham?

This is all I've dug up so far. Perhaps you can take it a bit further?

FYI, I don't think this branch of the HOLLEN Tree has yet been connected to the branch I hang on. What about you?
