I took a quick look at that 1900 census, to find birth locations for James, his parents, and family. I believe you'll find Albert Selman is listed as a "boarder", not brother.
1910 census Archer Co, TX:
Comer, James J., hd, 62, M(1) 31 yrs, b AL, NC, AL
" Catharine, wf, 52, M(1) 31 yrs, 8 ch, 6 lvg, b TX, AL, AL
" George W., s, 18, b TX
" James V., s, 16, b TX
" William R., s, 14, b TX
" Walter H., s, 8, b TX
Note, wife of James is listed as Catharine, but all other info, number of years married, number of children etc matches. One of those names, Susie/Catharine was probably her first name and the other one a middle name, I have seen this many times.
This is the only census that shows father of James b NC.

Check the Limestone Co, TX GenWeb site, use their search feature, type in Comer, up comes several items, but it is the first one you want to click and look at. Queries with several back and forth responses on the Comers sounded interesting. Not your direct line, but the name can't be too common, and since they posted they may have learned more, too.
Franklin Co, TX GenWeb site has a list of some unclaimed marriage certificates, you will find two marriages for G.W., one for sure is the fellow on the 1920, as he married Effie. One is for his daughter Inez. I just took quick look, take some time click and look:
Happy Hunting (^_^)
