Looks like you are finding out thing right and left!

I did a little prowling around for you. You might want to check out the Liberty and Jefferson Cos. US Gen Web sites. Main site is

Anyway, found some birth Liberty Co. it looks like Marshall and Rhena also had a Frank Marshall Fontenot (b. 1938), a Mary Erline (b. 1936) and a Rita Betty (1931). As I am sure you have found out, Fontenot is a very common name in LA and SE TX. If you look at the actual pages of the St. Landry Par. censuses, Fontenot's take up page after page. On the birth lists, Rhena is listed a Rhena Fontenot...(and it specifically asks for the mother's maiden name). You may want to consider that Rhena's maiden name was ALSO Fontenot..a cousin, perhaps?

Also listed in the Liberty Co. birth lists is a Marshall Joseph Fontenot Jr. who has a child with Allie Marie Fontenot in 1949. There is another Marshall Fontenot who, with Angelina Eagline, has baby George in 1946. Maybe a brother of Barbara?

Have tried and tried to find Marshall in the 1920 and 1930 census, and Joseph in the 1900 in St. Landry. There are three Josephs in St. Landry but no Marshall. I don't have access to an all name index of the census, just head of household, so I would recommend you find an all name index to find Joseph and Marshall. I can access the electronic images of the censuses if you need me to.

Anyway, good luck in your search! And, by the way, these folks are no kin to me...just saw your posting and thought I'd try to help.
Happy Hunting!
