The 1850 census indicates John Davies was born in SC. Believe he married Esther Orr in NC or TN, and some time after 1840 they moved to Polk County, Texas near Fireman's Hill (now Cold Springs, TX).
Have an 1849 letter that John Davies sent to Alexander and Jane Orr in which he states his son William lives within 50 miles, his sons John and Madison still live at home, and are still single, and son Washington lives about 30 miles away. Adeline (daughter?) lives within sight of them. The letter also mentions Emeline (daughter?) died two years previously. Either Adeline or Emeline married a man named Kincade- it is not clear in the letter.
To date my research has revealed that the Texas Polk County court records were lost to fire three different times.
Any help tracking this family would be greatly appreciated.
