Sarah and John arrived in Leon County closer to 1860. Sarah was only seven years old in 1845 and their daughter, Mary Elvie Jane Jordan, was born in Mississippi on August 3, 1859.

Mary married Duncan Pate, son of Daniel Pate and Susannah Graham Pate, before 1880 and they had a son, Argin Edwin Pate born about 1878. Argin married Zella M. Price on August 19, 1899, in Navarro Co., and they had 2 sons and 2 daughters; Price H. (1905), Bettie May (1908), Catherine (1915) and Glen Hugh (1918). Zella died March 16, 1919, after which Argin married Mattie Dale Lummus. Argin was Mattie Dale's fourth husband. Her first was Argin's cousin, Edward Lovington Pate, who died in 1909. Her second was Alfred Warren Raines who died in 1917. Her third was Jim Largent and that marriage quickly ended in divorce. One of Argin's daughters was retarded and difficult to manage and Mary Jordan Pate lived with them also. Mattie Dale still had three children at home, Leslie Pate (from Mattie Dale's first marriage) and her two Raines children. Things didn't work out and Mattie Dale took her children back to Flo (from Emhouse where Argin lived) to live. A few months later Argin took his life.

Apparently after Duncan's death, Mary married Robert N. Linson, son of William Thomas Linson and Rachel Boykin Linson, about 1880. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Linson was born December 19, 1880. Before Mary Elizabeth's second birthday, on March 24, 1882, Robert was killed in a gunfight in Jewett at the age of 33. He was postmaster at Oden (later called Flo) from November 28, 1881, until his death. Mary Elizabeth married Homer Virgil Ware, son of
Joseph Ware and Sarah Visage Ware in Navarro Co. on Jun 21, 1896. They had a son and two daughters; Charlie (before 1900), Ethel Alberta (January 31, 1900) and Dora Byrd (April 27, 1903). Dora married Lloyd David Davis. Ethel married James Isaac Ellett and they had a daughter, Betty Jo (August 1, 1920) and a son James Newton (December 3, 1924). James had a daughter named Sue. I do not know his wife's name.

Within 9 months after Robert's untimely death, Mary married Henderson Monroe Hilliard, son William Hilliard and Jany E. Hilliard, in December 1882. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters from 1884 to 1902, all in Navarro County. William Henry was born February 18, 1884, and married Kate Maggard. They had a son, Billy. John Lee was born February 4, 1886, and married Lucy Baker. They had a son, Buster, and a daughter, Beverly. Oliver Perry was born June 26, 1889, and married Sallie Bell. They had four children. Beulah May was born March 29, 1893, and married Howard Daniel Drane. They had 2 daughters, Dannie Jewell (August 1, 1912, married Thomas Edwin Godley) and Euda Allyne (August 31, 1914, married Elton William Dosser). Thomas M. was born September 9, 1896. Jessie Lee was born June 1, 1900, and married a Carson in 1920, Howard Pimlott before 1922 (son Howard) and Chaney Logan after 1923. Lola W. was born November 4, 1902, and married Clarence E. Burton. They had two daughters, Gloria Dell (married a Roney) and Nelda Ruth (married Harvey Lee Parrish).

Sarah petitioned for Mississippi Choctaw benefits but was denied (MCR1488). The request indicates that she was 1/8 Choctaw but I believe that this only relates to her father's side of the family. She apparently was unaware that, like her father, her mother was also 1/4 Choctaw.

I hope this helps. My information on John Austin Jordan is pretty limited. I would be pleased to have more information about him if you are willing to share.
