Local Pioneer Descendant Dies At Home

Charles Edward Campbell, 74, descendant of some of the earliest pioneers of West Texas, died at 5:30 p. m. Friday at his home at 1711 Young.
Services are to be held at 2 p. m. today at the Eberley chapel with Lynn Bodine, Primitive Baptist elder of Buford, officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.
Mr. Campbell had been a resident of Big Spring for 10 years and an employee of the Big Spring Hardware. Last November he suffered two strokes following an attack of flu. Before coming here, he had resided in the Fairview Community of Mitchell county since 1921.
A native of Leon county, where he was born at Centerville on March 13, 1876, Mr. Campbell's mother was a cousin to Cynthia Ann Parker, who had been abducted by the Comanches. His uncle, Joe Parker, another kinsman, Pharis Hurst, had helped to found the town at Sonora. As a youth of 18 years of age. Mr. Campbell drove the San Angelo-Sonora stage. His father, John W. Campbell, had been member of the border patrol, forerunner of the Texas Rangers.
Had he lived until July, he and Mrs. Lizzie Little Campbell, who survives, would have observed their 50th wedding anniversary
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Vernon Campbell, Elton Campbell, Doyle Campbell and Howard Campbell: and two daughters, Mrs. H. H. Rainey, and Mrs. W. L. Baskett, all of Big Spring. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Sally I. Philley, San Diego, Calif., a brother, S. B. Campbell, Lorenzo: six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Among relatives to be here for rites are Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Little, Abilene, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McLane, Ralls, Mr. and Mrs. S J. Little, Houston.
Pallbearers will be Dewey Martin. T. B. Atkins. Charles Marstrand, Dub Childress, Noel Hull and Clay Bedell.
