Dr. John Henry Joyce was the only child of William and Mahala (Head)Joyce. William had two children by a previous marriage. John Henry Joyce was born Feb 13 1854 in Louisiana, where his father was a planter. William Joyce Sr. died in Texas in 1860. In 1863 Mahala (Head) Joyce, moved to Cedar Creek to be near relatives. Dr. Joyce and his wife had one son Claude. According to this story Mahala never married a second time. Mrs. Petty was a careful genealogist and researched her stories with up most care.CBH
