According to the book, "History of Lee County Texas" by Lee County Historical Survey Committee, Mrs. James C. Killen, Editor, Copyright 1974, House Bill 179, an Act to Create the County of Lee, was introduced to the Texas House on Feb. 10, 1874. This bill (ammended) was approved by the house Apr. 9, 1874, and approved by the Texas Senate April 14, 1874. On April 29, a supplemental bill, Senate Bill 436 was introduced. It passed the Senate on April 30, "read in the House and passed on May 1, approved and became law on May 2, 1874."
