Hi Shelby,
Alfred Taylor Lyles b. abt. 1858 IL. was the son of Thomas Bennet Lyles and Martha S. Hewlet. Thomas Bennet was the son of Thomas Hilliary Lyles and Margaret Sarver, from Ky. The 1860 Shelby, So. District, Oconee & Cold Spring TWP, IL. census list the following family:
Lyles, Thomas B. 30 KY
Lyles, Martha 30 TN
Lyles, Henry Thomas 8 IL
Lyles, Mary 6 IL
Lyles, Casper 4 IL
Lyles, Alfred Taylor 2 IL
Lyles, Margaret 1 IL
Lyles, James 1/12 IL
The above family shows up in the 1880 Lee Co. Census

Lyles, Thomas 52 KY
Lyles, Martha 54 KY
Lyles, Taylor 23 IL
Lyles, James 20 IL
Lyles, Ella Charles 15 IL
Lyles, Rosa niece 9 TX
The above census with the birth of Ella, means this family did not come to Texas till at least 1866. I do not have access to the 1870 census, sorry. In 1883 Jerome E. Mathis married Mary J. Weathers in Lee Co., Tx. Then either after the death of his wife or divorce, I'm not sure which, Jerome Mathis married Rosa Lyles in 1887. Also listed in the 1880 census of Lee Co.:
Lyles, Cap 24 -
Lyles, Lee 23 MS
Presuming this to be Casper, brother to Alfred. If I can help further let me know.
