You sent me some information on the Short brothers (outlaws) in Lampasas Co. some time ago. The Temple Telegram ran an article this past Monday about the Shorts and the Horrell gang and you were cited as a reference. Just found this response from you last night re Jensey.

My great great grandfather was Joseph Wesley Short and my great grandmother was Louisa Short Hardman. At the time you initially sent me the information I did not know anything about what had happened to George "Wash" Short. I have since been in contact with a person doing research on the Short Brothers who played in Ernest Tubb's band. Their father was Joseph Henry Short - born Sept. 24, 1884 and died April 11, 1961. I have his death certificate and it says that he was born in Oklahoma, his father was G. W. Short and his mother was "unknown." He had an older sister, Haley Short, and she died in Oklahoma. On the census, Wash was living with his mother (Jensey) and my great grandmother and her brother, Squire Henry Short in 1870. My great grandparents (William Bennett and Louisa Short Hardman) were married in Lampasas and lived in San Saba and several other places in central Texas before moving near Randlett, OK. We know Joseph Henry Short and his wife lived near there but from his descendants knowledge, George died sometime after 1884 and is supposedly buried in Roswell, NM. He was in New Mexico "hiding out." The Shorts my relatives stayed in touch with were Joseph Henry (he went by Henry) and his wife and children. Some of my mother's older cousins knew Haley as well. They also said George Washington Short was Henry's and Haley's father.

Squire Henry Short supposedly went to the mining area near Silver City, NM and was shot and killed by his partner. We have not been able to find any more information about him.

I have a lot more information on Jensey's other sons. My great great grandparents, J. W. and Emaline Burch Short, supposedly died from measles when my great grandmother was two and therefore she and her brother were raised by Jensey.
