Sarah "Sally" Reese McRea White

I am trying to find the death date and burial place of Sarah "Sallie" Ann Reese McRea White. Sallie was the sister of my great-grandfather, Samuel L. Reese.

Sallie was the daughter of Absalom M. Reese and Elizabeth Robinson, and was born October 1829 in Pickens District, S.C.

On 15 January 1851, Sarah Ann Reese married John W. McRea in Marshall Co., Mississippi. Research has not located John McRea in any census, and Reese descendents know nothing about him.

On 24 October 1878, Sarah Reese McRea married John S. White in Lampasas County, in central Texas. Several questions exist concerning Sarah. The date that her first husband, John W. McRea, died is unknown. Since the 1860 census does not list John, it seems likely that he died sometime between about 1854 (his son Billy's birth date) and 1860 (the date of the census). The cause of John's death is not known.

The reason Sarah Reese McRea moved to Lampasas County is not known. A McRea family had moved to Texas from Mississippi between 1846 and 1848, eventually settling in Lampasas County. It is possible, though not proven, that those McRea's were related to Sarah's dead husband. The date that Sarah moved to Texas is not known.

According to the 1880 census, John White was a farmer and about fifteen years older than Sarah. The 1900 Lampasas County census shows: Sarah A. White, born October 1829, in South Carolina, a widow, mother of one child (Billy McRea, listed in the 1860 census), who had died sometime prior to 1900. The date and cause of Billy's death have not been determined.

Reese family members also know nothing about John White except the data from the 1880 census. Apparently Sallie White died sometime between the 1900 and 1910 census.

I am hoping that perhaps members of the White or McRea families in Lampasas Co. may be able to shed some light on Sallie. Since she left no descendents, I feel something of an obligation to make sure her story is recorded.

Thanks for any assistance.
