From the Lampasas Leader, December 20, 1907. “Dr. S.J. Horrell is confined to his home by two wounds, one on the face extending from behind the left ear to near the point of his chin, this wound having been made by a knife or other sharp instrument. The other wound is in the foot or leg, and was made by bird shot from a shot gun. R.W. Ratliff is under arrest charged with assault to murder, and the matter will be settled in the courts.”
Dr. S.J. Horrell was James Samuel Horrell. Several years before this incident he was a city marshal and tax collector he later became a dentist. I think Ratliff was also a dentist. This incident might be a match to the information you are looking for.
