James R. and Etta Simson & school records

Hi Everyone,

My GGGrandparents moved to Lamar County, probably Paris, in the late 1870s from Benton County, MS. They were:

James R. Simpson and Margaret Arietta Thompson, both from MS.

They had seven children, I know for sure that four were born in Lamar Co. --they ALL might have been born there, but the last three I'm not sure of yet. James and Etta's last child was born in 1887.

Some time soon after, James seems to have vanished. The next thing I can find is that Etta married James' older brother in 1890 back in MS. All the kids moved there as well.

My struggle is to find out what happened to James! Where can I look to find out what happened to him? In every search I've come up empty, with the exception of the 1880 census. James was a farmer and they had two kids.

Also, are there any kind of school records available for Lamar County in the mid to late 1880s?

The Simpson kids' names are:

Trussie C. b.1878
Elmer Russie b. 1880
Daisy Carrie b. 1881
Jinkey Deroah b. 1884
Stiney Ometra b. 1885
Bonnie C. (who is a boy) b. 1887
infant, b. 18??

I'd be so grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks,
Val
