Looks like Henry Clay Kelley was born about 1874/75, not 1865. I found him on census records, in 1880 he's living with another family, maybe he was an orphan; by 1900 he and Lula and their children are together.
What I find interesting is on the 1870 census prior to birth Henry Clay is a couple who might be his parents:
Kelley, Calvin, 28, b TN - land 600; personal 870
" Mary, 18, b IL
Now, if this should be the parents of Henry Clay, what happened to the land? Today we say follow the money, but back in those days it was follow the land.
Now, 2 residences away is a John Kelley 70, probably father of Calvin, but guess who is living next door to John Kelley? A family named MARSH. Maybe the handed down family story about Samuel Marsh got a little mixed up and maybe he was good friends, or even a cousin of your Henry Clay Kelley.
If this was my line I would be posting queries and see if I could find anyone working on Calvin or the older John.
Happy Hunting (^_^)
