Descendants of JOHN WOFFORD
1 JOHN WOFFORD b: 1797 in Rankin Co., MS. Came to Wofford Crossing in 1848. He lived 4 miles south of Helena on the east side of the San Antonio River. A log house was built in 1849. A field was cleared, broken with ox team, and
planted to barley for horse stock in 1850.
From Page 84 of the Didear book: "He planted barley for his horses in 1850. This was probably the first crop cultivated by white men in the area that became Karnes County." He died October 25, 1887 at age 90, and was buried at the Colony Cemetery several miles east of his home.
