RUSSELL in Jones County

I am searching for chinks in my brick wall and posting this everywhere that it might possibly be possibly be relevant.

Most of the information I have comes from the family Bible of Robert Frank RUSSELL and Isabella LEGRAND WHITE RUSSELL.

Robert Frank RUSSELL was born 4 Apr 1857 in Abbeville Dist. SC and died 1946 in Santa Ana California. He married 4 Oct 1881 to Isabella [aka Bee, aka Bell] LEGRAND. The only location listed for the marriage is *Captain Richard's house*. Isabella was born 22 July 1855 in Christiansburg, Montgomery County, Virginia. She died 14 Feb 1905 in Brashear, Hopkins County, Texas.

Robert Frank RUSSELL was the son of Robert E RICHARDS and Elizabeth RUSSELL. Robert E. was born in Abbeville Dist SC, date not listed. He died 1859 in Abbeville Dist. SC. Elizabeth RUSSELL was born in Abbeville Dist, date not listed. And died 1864 *near Atlanta, Georgia* Family loreis that the RUSSELL family was so opposed to this marriage, that when RICHARDS died and left Elizabeth with a 2-year-old, they refused to allow her to return home unless she changed the baby's surname to RUSSELL. I don't know if this is true or not. I do know that one of Robert Frank's children said that the RICHARDS line was from Ireland. There were a lot of anti-Irish feelings in the US at that time so perhaps that is why they opposed the marriage. I have never found Robert E RICHARDS, Elizabeth RUSSELL or the son Robert Frank RUSSELL on any census returns before 1910.

Isabella LEGRAND was the daughter of Josiah Napoleon LEGRAND and Sarah Jane ABBITT. She is on the 1870 census with her parents. Then on the 1880 census she is in Caddo, Clark County, Arkansas with a cousin by the name of George W HART. Her name at the time is given as Bee WHITE. I believe she married Mr. WHITE sometime in the late 1870s, probably in Appomattox or Montgomery County Virginia. There was one child born to this marriage, listed in the family Bible as Mortimer Carlysle WHITE. On the 1880 census this child is 1 year old, listed as Carlisle, a female.

Since it wasn't the norm for even a widow to move round alone during that time period. I assumed that Robert Frank RUSSELL had wound up in Arkansas some how.

As I said, I don't have a place listed in the family Bible other than Captain Richard's house. I couldn't find a RICHARDS in Clark County Arkansas for 1880.

Robert and Isabella's first child was born in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas. The next two were born in Atlanta, Georgia. The next four were born in Aubry, Denton County, Texas. There is no birth place listed for the last child.

There children were
Errol Legrand RUSSELL 1882 Texarkans - 1960 Jones County, TX
Norma Gertrude or Gertrude Norma RUSSELL 1884 Atlanta GA - 1952 Redwood City, California
William Irvin RUSSELL 1886 Atlanta - 1951 unknown
Katie Urna RUSSELL, 1888 Aubry, Denton County, TX - 1935 unknown
Samuel Sydney RUSSELL 1889 Aubrey - 1973 Jones County TX
Ballard R RUSSELL born and died 1892 in Aubrey
Lucius Lamar RUSSELL 1893 Aubrey - 1965 California
Lois Esther RUSSELL 1897 Aubrey - 1903 unknown
Ruth RUSSELL 1900 unknow

Any help or leads at all on this family, including on the children of Robert Frank RUSSELL and Isabella LEGRAND or the way that George W HART fits in would be GREATLY appreciated. I have worked on this line for over 10 years and am still stumped!
