My great-grandfather had a half-brother, William Alexander Brooks, born 17 October 1858 in Texas, probably Johnson County. His wife was Sarah Jane "Sallie" Elliott. They had four daughters -- Lena May, Maude, Ethel, and Olive Edith. Our family records have always indicated that William died in 1937, but I suspect he died much earlier -- perhaps between 1903 and 1910. In 1920 his wife was in California, a widow, living with a married daughter. By 1930 all the daughters had married and were living in California.
Does anyone have access to any records -- funeral home, etc. -- for that period of time that would list William Alexander Brooks? He always went by "W. A. Brooks" and never, so far as I know, used his full name. In 1900 he and his wife and children were living in Johnson County but I cannot find him after that. He had spent part of the previous decade in the State of Washington (Klickitat County) where his daughter Olive was born in 1892, but for reasons unknown moved back to Texas. Perhaps he was in ill health. I suspect he died in Johnson County and after that his family moved West.
