My fraternal grandmother (Ruby Lee Farquhar) died in Port Arthur in 1926. My father (Jack Farquhar Jr.) was only 3 years old when his mother died. For this reason, I have very little information regarding her. I recently found her death certificate online and learned that she lived in Nederland and died in Mary Gates Hospital in Port Arthur. The cause of death is listed as "mercurial poisoning." My question is twofold. First, what was around in that area containing mercury . . . how was she exposed to it? Second, were other cases reported in the area? Any help with this would be appreciated.
