The hospital was located on French Road. It was built in 1924 on land donated to the County by some of John Jay French's Heirs. Its official name was the "Jefferson County Tuberculosis Sanatorium" but it was commonly referred to as just the "TB Hospital".
The hospital's location on French Road was south of the existing John Jay French Historical Park and Museum and north of the current Delaware Street.
For a nostalgic trip, visit the 1930 Jefferson County, TX census, Justice Pct. 1, ED 123-45, Page 13B (lines 82-100) and Page 14A (lines 1-33) to view a complete list of the employees and patients living at the TB Hospital complex in Apil of 1930. Notice that some of the French Heirs still lived nearby on French Road.
The census taker, John F. Walker, is the spouse of one of John Jay French's granddaughters. Note that the census clearly shows the location of the hospital as "French Road".
I rode by the TB Hospital many times with my father during the late 1930's and early 1940's. It was on French Road, not Delaware Street.
