I am not familiar with the Irish connection for Yates (Yeates) but will share what I have researched on Zachary Yates' family. The 1860 Jasper Co. TX census shows Zachary B. Yates was b. in 1818 in GA and his wife Louisa in 1830 in MS or MO. (Zachary also is known as Zachariah.)

Jasper Co. census of 1850 shows L.B.(must be Z.B.) Yates b. GA and Levica b. MS (Louisa?) and daughters Mary Abregal, Sarah and Julia Ann.

Children's names in 1860 census were listed as Margaret (Mary Abregal?), Sarah, Julia, Adaline, Louisa, Thomas, Zachariah and James. (Another daughter, Nannie Yates, had not been born yet in 1860.)

Nannie married Archie Orton of Jasper Co., a half-brother of Zachary Yates Jr.'s wife Georgeanna Orton.

According to my research (and I could be wrong) Zachary Yates Sr. was son of Thomas Payne Yates and Abigail __. Thomas was b. 1790 in AL and died about 1842 Lowndes Co. MS. Children were Zachariah B., Lemuel T., Nathaniel B., Daniel N., Sara Ann and Martha S.
Most of my information comes from Internet. Only documents I have so far are death certificates of Nannie Yates and Archie Orton.
