Bisco...I have never heard of it either. Did you say that it was located north west of Big Spring, Texas. I am looking for my G.Grandfather's grave. No one has been able to locate it to date. Maybe his could could be one of the graves your dad found.
My G.Grandfather resided NW of Big Spring when he died in 1935. He resided in or near Stanton, Texas. Would that be close to Bisco??? His children resided and farmed near Knott, when G.Grandfather J.J. died. We as G.Grandchildren do not know where he was buried...and his children are all deceased as well.
G.Grandfather was a minister, farmer, and stonemason. He grew up during the Civil War. Much of his heritage was destroyed by William T. Sherman and Wilson's Raiders in Georgia. J.J. married in Upson Co., GA and then moved to Alabama. When he was about 40 years old he and his family moved to Texas.
Where is Bisco in relation to Knott and Stanton, TX.
My mother's brother resides in what was once the heart of Soash, Texas. The collapsing walls of the old bank building are just across the road to the north, from Uncle Bob Merrick. School used to be held in it's basement. As a very young child, I used to play on the steps of the old bank building.
My granddad drug several of the houses and business buildings from Soash, on skids pulled by mule teams, to his farm, when Soash died as a town. Grandad had several children and quite abit of land. When one of his children married, that child was given a quarter section of land and the Soash building that Grandad had placed on that particular quarter section. Our quarter section had a two room house on it. I have a picture of the house. Grandad and his family kept the large two story house from Soash. He placed it on a calache hill top, on the NE corner of his land. It burned in 1934-5. Dad said he was napping in an upstairs bedroom and was awakened by the smell of smoke. He managed to make it down the stairs, before the house was engulfed in flames. Very little was saved from the house.
