I have been trying to find more information about the community of Friendship in Harrison county and would like to know if there is a Lewis Moore and a Sarah Ann Moore buried there?
My husband's ancestors had land on Moccasin Road according to the 1940 census. Sarah "Sallie" Mahulla Bowls Moore lived in house #88 on this road. I have found Moccasin Creek but the road no longer exists on a map. Her Grand Father, E. M. Bussey, was the storekeeper in the Friendship Community and also post master as of April 30, 1866.
It's also in Census Precinct #4. There was (is?) a school in the vicinity in 1855 listed as School Census District 9.
From the Texas Handbook on line:
FRIENDSHIP, TEXAS (Harrison County). Friendship was on Farm Road 2208 sixteen miles northwest of Marshall in northwest Harrison County. The community was founded about 1846 and received a post office in 1851. By 1884 it had a population of twenty, a Methodist church, a general store, and a district school and had become a cotton-shipping point. In 1896 the population had grown to eighty and the settlement had a mill and gin. In 1904 the Friendship school district comprised four schools with 123 white pupils and three schools with ninety-nine black pupils. The community lost its post office in 1905. Though there were two businesses in Friendship in 1931, the community was not listed on the state highway map of 1948. The Friendship school still served the area in 1978.
This is all I have found to date. I hope this reaches you. Thanks
