Company D, 7th Texas Infantry (Gregg's)

I'm trying to determine if the Benjamin F. Carr who enlisted in the subject regiment October 1, 1861 was my great-great-granfather Benjamin F. Carr who died and is buried in Hopkinsville, KY, January 12, 1862. My problem is that my Carr lived and owned property in KY; yet the age and name match. There was a report in the Texas Republican March 15, 1862 giving a list of the dead, "Died in Hopkinsville, KY," but I haven't seen the text. A Benjamin F. Carr did own property in Texas in 1849 according to Texas land records, but I find no other reference in U.S. Census records for Texas. Any help or advice very much appreciated.
