Hi Jennifer, I found a Wesley Bowen and family in 1880 living District 8, Coffee Co., TN. Wesley, b. AL, 33 yrs old, farmer; Martha, b. TN [and rest of family too], 28; John B., b. TN, 9; William, 8; Robert L, 4; James W, 1.

However, you can't be positive that this is your John B. Bowen only from the Census records. You need to find John's birth certificate.

You also can't be totally sure about any cemetery index that is posted on the Internet. Go to Random Acts Genealogical Kindness, www.raogk.org, choose Texas, choose county and look for a volunteer who does pictures of tombstones.

I found where a James Wesley Bowen died 6 April 1924, Navarro Co per death cert #13880. Source: Texas Death Index 1903-2000. Order a copy of that death certificate which will provide more information regarding his spouse and parents.

Most of the 1890 Censuses were destroyed in a fire many years ago.

Who James McPhee was isn't identified in the 1900 Harris Co. Census. He could have been a boarder and not related to the family. Successful Searching!
