I have been researching one Rufus P. Highnote (sometimes spelled Hynote). He is often called R. P. or Rufe Highnote.
He originally came out of Navarro County; was a police officer in Corsicana and managed to kill a few people in that capacity. I have numerous articles out of the Dallas Morning News concerning Rufus.
Just recently I came across a fairly lengthy article out of an Oklhaoma newspaper which states "what Highntoe does not know about keeping the peace in oil field towns wouldnot be worth recording.....he officiated (as a peace officer) in the Beaumont boom, at Spindletop, Sour Lake and across the line in Louisana when the Caddo field was brought in."
Rufus served as a city marshall in northern OK in 1909-1910, owned his own detective agency, and served as a deputy sheriff in Carter County, OK when he was killed in 1918.
My question is this - many of the newspaper articles that I have found about him say that he had "nineteen notches on his gun". However, I've only been able to identiy seven.
I was wondering if anyone reading this board might know of newspaper articles or of any information of any killilngs by Rufust Highnote while he was in Hardin County - probably in the 1902 - 1907 time frame.
Any information appreciated.
