Family myth...need a little help in lookups or Hardeman Co. history

There is a Doty family myth that Robert Fulton Doty, my great grandfather got into some trouble with the law there in Hardeman County, Tx. It has been told to me with different circumstances but here's how the story goes...

Robert Fulton Doty, husband of Lillie Ann James, and his children moved to Hardeman County sometime around 1920. In about 1925, Robert shot a man to death, apparently because the man was trying to steal from a watermelon patch or that Robert caught him in the act of stealing something.

Robert and the family supposedly owned a ranch there around Quanah. The only problem is that I cannot find one bit of information on him or any of the rest of the Doty family. I know that there was a Loving J. Doty there in Hardeman County, but I am unsure if they were related. Eventually in about 1834, Robert and the family moved back to Yalobusha County, Mississippi.

I am hoping that someone could look up anything on the Doty's there in Hardeman county, or if by some chance that there is someone there in the county that remembers a shooting or the Doty family in general.

Thanks!
