During the past year we have been cleaning the old Rector Chapel Cemetery and documenting the names of those interred there. The Cemetery is located on FM 2772 on the Wiseman Farm, near La Vernia where the original Rector Chapel Presbyterian Church was built in 1876. The church was named for Claiborne Rector (a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto). The church was constituted in 1852 and named "Cibolo Presbyterian Church". The first members were: Claiborne Rector, William Robert Wiseman, Elizabeth Wiseman, John T. Montgomery, John F. Tiner and Mary A.Tiner. After the church was constructed in 1876, it was renamed "Rector Chapel" in honor of Claiborne Rector who died three years prior to the building of the church. Presbyterian services were held at this site until 1891 when the little church was moved to downtown LaVernia on Chihuahua Street. The church is still standing today and is now the Primitive Baptist Church.
The Rector Chapel Cemetery was established in 1878 and burials took place in this cemetery up until the early 1900's. Listed below are those interred in this cemetery. You could possibly find your ancestor interred here.
