I followed the posts between you and Pat. You say Charles walked off and left his wife and children. Did she obtain a divorce from him? If so there should have been an attempt to serve him papers. If they did there might be an address for him in the file.

My gr grandparents divorced in 1905 in NM and I obtained the file on their divorce. It was quite interesting.
