J. M. Davis, Retired Farmer, Dies at Age 90. John M. Davis, 90 resident of Grayson County 49 years, landowner
and retired farmer, died at 5.40 a.m. Wednesday at his home at 202 North Highland, following an illness of
several years. Funeral services will be held at the Central Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev.
LeRoy M. Anderson, Denison Press publisher and retired Christian Church minister, officiating, assisted by the
Rev. Robert L. Badgett, Central Christian Church, minister. Burial will be in Akers Cemetery, directed by Waldo
Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons of the deceased. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday to lie in state until time of services. It will remain at the funeral home prior to that time. Mr. Davis was
born Feb. 24, 1855 in Dallas County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Davis. He and Fraances Belle Akers were
married in 1877 in Grayson county. He had farmed east of Howe 30 years, retiring in 1926 and moving to
Sherman. He had been a member of the Central Christian Church many years. Surviving are five daughters,
Mrs. C. W. Scott of Gunter, Tx., Mrs. W. D. Edwards, Mrs. O. H. Walker, Mrs John C. Sneed, all of Sherman
and Mrs. Claud Whiteaker of Fort Worth, Tx. four sons, Fred C. Davis, of Howe, Tx. L.P. (Roy) Davis of Plainview,
Tx, Jewell Davis of Lubbock, Tx. and W.L. Davis of Hereford, Tx; a brother, H.L. Davis of McKinney, Tx; 23
grandchildren and 13 great grand children. Have a nice day. Fred Davis (no relation) Sherman, Tx.
