Hey there folks!
Does anyone have any information on Mary and Moses Jones who moved to Texas from Tennessee in the 1860's? I have a letter dated 1867 that is from Whits Borow (sic) Grayson County Texas that was in my grandmother's posession in Tennessee. I don't know if they're related to me (I am assuming they are), but it is addressed to Father and Mother, no names. It described seeing a long cattle drive from their house. He was a blacksmith at some point, because they wrote, "I have got a set of blacksmithing tools and making from 8 to 10 dollars a day."
They also described the path to come visit by "watter." "If you will come you shall never want (never) for nothing. If any of you want to come to Texas by watter come to Jefferson Texas and I will meet you their with my wagon." The spelling is transcribed as originally written over 130 years ago.
Any insight out there?
