John Stanley Josephine Morris 1895
Posted by: Cheryl Morris Date: March 08, 2001 at 15:35:58
  of 1676

I ran across an unexpected marriage between John Stanley and Josephine Morris in 1895 in Grayson County. The ceremony was performed by the Justice of the Peace of the 4th Precinct [which I think includes Van Alstyne]

As the family has not spoken of this marriage and Josephine is listed as Josephine Morris, a widow in 1900, I suspect the marriage was of short duration.

I do not know if Mr. Stanley died or if the marriage simply broke up. However, I do suspect that it might be the source of family stories about Josephine once having a home and there being problems.

I would like to know more and would appreciate information.

There is a John Stanley listed in the 4th Precinct in the 1890 Census and I assume this is the man Josephine married. If so, he was a Civil War veteran from Missouri.

Cheryl
