If Doss and his sister were orphaned prior to 1848 they would have been minors. Have you checked the Bedford Co, TN guardianship records? The court would have appointed a guardian for minor children, to report the sale of any of the estate -- to protect the interests of the children. You might check land records, too, on the chance their father owned land and it had to be disposed of. Look for a Henry Collins on tax records, does he disappear about the time you think father of Doss and his sister died?

Since you believe their father's name was Henry, have you checked Sistlers multi volume set of early TN marriages for Henry? It does miss a few counties, but most are covered and I have made two BIG breakthroughs using those indexes.

Check Bedford Co, TN GenWeb site. Most TN GenWeb counties have good records and information online.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
