There were at least 4 families of Griffins from Nash Co., North Carolina who were in Gonzales Co., Texas by 1870 census. The heads were Richard, Jessey, John W. and Rhoda, the mother of Richard and Jesse. She was 72 years old on the census and her daughter, Emma was living with her. Rhoda was the widow of Benjamin Griffin who died in Nash Co., N. C. in 1857. They were my ggggrandparents. Their older sons, Alfred and Robert Griffin had settled in Itawamba County, Mississippi by 1860 where Alfred died in 1900.
Are there any descendants still living in Gonzales today ? They lived in the Belmont Precinct # 3 in 1870. Rhoda Griffin possibly died there. Would love to know where she is buried. I will glady exchange information on the family. Thank you for any help.
