Hi Rebecca
I'm afraid that you've been given some incorrect information. Gillespie County, TX is named after Robert Addison Gillespie, a famous Texas Ranger.

Samuel Gillespie is my great grandfather. (His middle name shows up as Huston in many records but I have an affidavit signed by Samuel stating that his middle name is House). Samuel migrated with his family from TN to Illinois. He served in the Union army during the Civil War and moved to Bastrop TX to be with his Uncle James Hiram Gillespie around 1867. Please contact me if you want more information. I'd be happy to share with you. I have questions I'd like to ask you about Thomas and Naomi Gillespie.
