1855 death - Mary Jane Tribou Bearce

A 1905 genealogy of the Greeley family states without citation that Mary Jane Tribou Bearce died July 15, 1855 in Galveston, Texas. She was born Feb 27, 1825, in Maine, and married Larned Swallow Bearce in Maine on May 1, 1850. There was one child, a daughter Mary Ella.

Can someone direct me to any resources that might confirm this and even give more information? My father tells me that his mother once reported having been told by her aunt, a daughter of Larned by his second wife, that "You don't want to know what happened in Galveston." For what it's worth, Larned was a Yankee merchant. He and Mary were married in Maine in 1850.
